Bank Account

Having a personal bank account is for many a sign of financial independence and status.  There are many different types of accounts that a person or business may choose to have that is entirely based on the financial and personal needs of each person.  To name just a few different types accounts that a person could have, there are savings accounts, transactional accounts, and loan accounts, numbered accounts, individual savings accounts, tax–exempt accounts, and money market deposit accounts.  Moreover, many people have groups of accounts that comprise all of their bank account needs.

A checking account is a transactional account is by far the most common type of personal account in the United States.  Some of the different features and benefits that you may receive with your bank account are having branch networks, cash machines, or ATMs, the ability for internet banking and telephone banking.  Moreover, you may have the opportunity to perform transactions on the telephone or through the mail if you wish.

Something that is consistent throughout most banking institutions is the concept of overdrafts.  An overdraft occurs when there is not enough money in the bank account to cover the amount of a debit to the account, or if there is a check written that actually becomes cleared through the bank at a time when there is insufficient funds for the check to clear the bank.

A personal bank account is for the use of general banking needs and is typically the most often used account for many individuals.
