Certificate Deposits

A certificate of deposit also known as a CD is a deposit for a designated amount of time.  These certificate deposits are a savings product offered to patrons by financial institutions like banks, insurance companies, and credit unions.  Most certificate deposits are much like savings accounts since they are insured and tend to be free of financial risk.  Most certificate deposits vary from savings accounts in that they are committed for a fixed term as well as a fixed interest rate.  The fixed terms can differ based upon the type of certificate deposit selected.  Term may vary as well, based on the certificate deposit selected.  Certificate deposits are intended to be held until maturity (from six months to five years) and then they are withdrawn along with the accrued interest.  Interest rates on certificate deposits are typically higher than those of a regular savings account where money is effortlessly withdrawn when the mood suits.  Nonetheless, this may not apply to certificate deposits that convey an inverted yield curve.

Certificate deposits require a minimum deposit.  Higher deposits yield higher rates.  The best rates for certificate deposits in the United States usually are on deposits greater than $100,000 known as a Jumbo CD; however, this is not always the case for all institutions.  After you deposit your principal into you are certified of deposit account, occasionally during the term, a check for the accumulated interest are sent to the owner of the CD.  This collection is principally based upon the banking institutions’ certificate deposit rules.
